“I always think if I had the opportunities young aspiring girls do now what I could have developed in early adolescence to support my progression as an athlete”
I have been fortunate enough to be playing some kind of footy over the course of 20 years, however being female and with our sport only have just found a rise in growth over the last couple of years or so what resource and facilities looked like when I first entered this arena versus where they are now, looks very different.
I always think if I had the opportunities young aspiring girls do now what I could have developed in early adolescence to support my progression as an athlete. Most of our development was done on our own, through our own learnings, our own want to be better or what we have access to. Now with elite environments, better understanding of the female body, recovery practises put in place, ability to review and rewatch footage, train under equipped coaching and strength and conditioning has unlocked another level of our game. A space to be created where it targets all of these requirements would have been of absolute benefit, so I’m in awe of Lori and Athletes Collective, as the work she is doing to target this growth and help access a one-stop-shop to be better in all elements of being a professional rugby player.
To think with access, what young girls can create, building the bricks of their foundation from a young age to then assist them in successful futures of our game. They will be better athletes and our game will be a better product. This is untapped space and one that will make waves in any competitive community. Athletes Collective is your tool-shed to add your own personal and professional kits, driving standards and change.
